WOMEN IN MINISTRY
Why We Affirm Women as Pastors and Preachers
At Vivid Church, we joyfully affirm that God calls both men and women to lead, preach, and pastor His people.
We believe the Holy Spirit’s calling and gifting, not gender, determine who may serve in ministry.
1. The Holy Spirit Calls All Believers
“In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy…” — Acts 2:17–18
When the Spirit was poured out, both men and women received power to proclaim the gospel. The Greek word prophēteusousin means “to speak forth divine truth.”
This marks a new covenant reality—God’s voice speaks through both sons and daughters.
2. Women Led, Taught, and Preached in the Early Church
Scripture gives multiple examples of women in key ministry roles:
- Phoebe served as a deacon (Romans 16:1–2).
- Priscilla taught doctrine to Apollos (Acts 18:24–26).
- Junia was recognized among the apostles (Romans 16:7).
- Philip’s four daughters prophesied publicly (Acts 21:9).
From deacons to apostles, teachers to prophets — women were active, visible leaders in the early church.
3. Misunderstood Passages Are Contextual, Not Universal
Passages like 1 Timothy 2:12 and 1 Corinthians 14:34–35 addressed specific issues of disorder and false teaching, not a timeless ban on women teaching.
The Greek word authentein in 1 Timothy 2:12 means “to domineer” or “to usurp authority,” not to lead rightly. Paul corrected misuse of authority, not Spirit-led teaching.
Elsewhere, Paul acknowledges women praying and prophesying publicly (1 Corinthians 11:5).
4. The Gospel Restores Equality
“There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” — Galatians 3:28
At creation, God gave both man and woman authority to steward the earth (Genesis 1:26–28).
Through Christ, that partnership is restored — and the mission of the church is carried out together.
5. The Fruit Confirms the Calling
Jesus said, “You will know them by their fruits.” (Matthew 7:16)
For over a century, Foursquare women have borne fruit as pastors, evangelists, teachers, missionaries, and church planters.
At Vivid Church, we celebrate and release both women and men to fulfill their God-given calling — to know God, find freedom, discover purpose, and make a difference.
